January 11, 2017 – With every new year comes resolutions to make a positive difference, and seek professional development. First15 Sport Performance is committed to making learning opportunities a reality by creating a series of seminars focused on sharing sport and performance knowledge and resources. This exciting new program, known as “5in15”, includes panels of knowledgeable experts located in various regions of the United States. A typical 5in15 seminar features three or more presenters sharing fifteen minutes of valuable information, with the aid of up to five multimedia resources, and an interactive question segment. These features bring a typical 5in15 seminar to a maximum of two hours of valuable professional development, focused on a range of topics from sports medicine, coaching, mental skills, officiating, administration, and many additional areas of sport and performance-based knowledge.
To launch the 2017 Spring 5in15 schedule, First15 will be working with several individuals to deliver original content as recorded virtual sessions while in attendance at the USA Rugby National Development Summit (NDS) in Baltimore on January 13-15th. These sessions will be released by First15 parallel to the NDS conference. In the spirit of promoting accessibility, this first virtual seminar will be shared free of charge through First15 social media platforms, including Facebook and Youtube. Future seminars will be offered at an affordable cost of $10 per attendant ($100 per program) in a variety of locations.
“We are greatly looking forward to extending learning experiences to the masses, while also creating a unique opportunity for dedicated professionals to practice the art of sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. Everyone involved has the opportunity to improve performance, while maximizing usage of their time and financial resources.” said First15 Director of Performance, Katie Wurst.
First15 will be releasing the full schedule of 5in15 seminars following the NDS. In addition to shared knowledge, participants who attend a 5in15 seminar at any location earn three USA Rugby professional development credits. A major goal of the project is to inspire participants to learn more about additional professional development opportunities, while also raising the profile of a diverse array of dedicated volunteers and professionals.
“Inclusivity and connection are two focal points for this program. We want individuals to be inspired to become a certified coach, or attend a grassroots referee clinic, or volunteer at an event after they gain knowledge and confidence from attending a 5in15 seminar. The potential for such a wide-range of presenters, topics, and grassroots mobilization is limitless, and we are eager to make it happen.” said Wurst.
